Rousey began her professional career as a mixed martial artist in 2010, after becoming the first American woman to earn an Olympic medal in judo, by winning bronze at the 2008 Summer Olympics. After a string of successful bouts in both King of the Cage and Strikeforce, which included a reign as the last ever Strikeforce Women\'s Bantamweight Champion, Rousey signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in 2012.
