Fionn (pronounced "fin") Whitehead was born on 18 July 1997. He is a native of London. He was named after Irish folk legend Fionn mac Cumhaill. His parents are Linda and Tim, the latter jazz musician. Whitehead, who has three older siblings, grew up in Richmond, London. Yahoo! Movies said Whitehead was raised "in an artistic household". Growing up, he aspired to be a guitarist, a rugby player, and a breakdancer. He began acting at the Orange Tree Theatre when he was 13 years old. Later he went to Orleans Park School. He then went to Richmond College and entered the National Youth Theatre\'s summer course. By 2015, he was an aspiring actor who worked at a coffee shop in Waterloo, London. He starred in the 2016 British miniseries Him. He also acted in a stage performance of Glenn Waldron\'s Natives.\n', '

He was surprised to be cast as the main protagonist of Christopher Nolan\'s film Dunkirk, which was released in 2017. Nolan compared Whitehead to "a young Tom Courtenay". For his performance, Whitehead was nominated for an Empire Award for Best Male Newcomer.\n', '
